The seasons were definitely changing, transforming from jacket and flats weather to coat and boots weather. The wind was just a little more harsh, a tad more nose-biting, and a little more enough to set already rosy cheeks to flaming. Keeping out of the weather was probably the smartest idea. Curl up with a book and some hot cocoa, gather around the tube and watch a few cheesy movies, maybe go to a pub and warm up with a cold one. Lily Dean, whether out of stubbornness or determination, was not staying inside anywhere. She wanted to go out, so she was. Bundled up in a few extra layers, the tiny young woman bounded from the Dean household with a bounce to each step. It was around ten in the morning, so the rides at Red River City would be line-free, right? The time and the weather surely meant she could hop from ride to ride without a problem.
Lollipop making her cheek stick out in a funny shape, Lily entered the park with a renewed vigor supplied by the area's ghost town appearance. She could get all of the cotton candy she wanted... Oh, holy day. Lily gasped. Holy day! Crushing a mitted hand to her forehead, the blonde laughed out loud. Christmas was coming up! That meant presents and food and mistletoe and...Crystal's birthday. Oh, my. Crystal's birthday... She still had to plan for that. Her poor baby boy was going to be fourteen! Ancient for a cat.
"Look, little girl, move out of the way, wouldja?"
Lily jumped and pulled her candy from her mouth with a pop that was clearly audible to the few people around. "My apologies, sir," she replied with a friendly smile, stepping out of the way so a large man could shuffle past her. Apparently, she had been a little too deep into her own thoughts. With a shrug, she continued on her way, a way that wasn't really planned, but worked for her. She walked around aimlessly, looking at the different game stands and rides, feeling rotten for the poor workers and their cold ears.
Anyway, she thought. What should she do for Crystal's birthday? Fourteen was a big year, after all. Oh, and what gift should she get for him? The questions, the questions. A ball of yarn? No, he preferred ribbon... But what color? Maybe a collar instead. Again, what color?
"Kid, ya gonna play or just stand there?"
"Oh!" The young woman, who definitely wasn't a child if anyone were to look close enough, jumped yet again. "Sorry, maybe later," Lily offered. She really needed to stop thinking so hard about her cat, she kept getting taken by surprise.
Moving on, Lily focused on actually seeing what she was looking at. Huge teddybears, giraffes, monkeys, fish, dragons, and things so bizarre she couldn't come up with names for them. What was that thing with the, what, seven eyes? She shook her head and moved on to the next stall. More odd stuffed animals and cheap prizes that would break within ten minutes of winning them. Lily enjoyed playing anyway.

The sun was beginning to dim it's light, and heat for that matter, as Autumn was whirling right under their noses. Dexter walked along alone on the sidewalk, heading for who knows where; basically wherever the wind took him. Although it was chilly outside, he wasn't looking to stroll into a cafe and order a hot, steaming cup of cocoa. He felt like doing something fun, yet relaxing. Hands in his jacket pockets, he ambled on and on, following what seemed to be a never-ending sidewalk. Then, he blinked and found himself standing at the entrance of the theme park. He cracked a small smile, his eyes glancing around at the typical theme park rides and games. He lifted his sleeve to check the time: about 10:15 am. Yes, Red River City was open, but lucky for him, not a very big crowd of people would be there.
He moved down past employees wrapped in the warmest clothes possible, usual rides that all kids loved from five to twenty, and wound up standing in front of a bench of all places in this park that he could be. He rolled his eyes and let his head fall back, looking to the cloud-filled sky. It was clear blue, not gloomy, but the wind was still spiraling around him. He spun around and noticed a blond-haired girl, who looked to be a couple years younger than himself. His eyes scanned the line of games to play where you could win prizes of all sorts: whether they were cute and cuddly stuffed animals, or blown-up hammers and electric guitars. He remembered when he was little and he always loved receiving the big dogs with their tongues hanging out of their mouths, or the blown-up guitars so he could strum along to his favorite hits. (That was before he got an actual guitar). Dexter smiled and took a few strides toward the row of games, and the girl. He stepped up to an activity where there were animals suspended from the walls and there were four rows of bottles stacked atop each other. He remembered this game. Even though he had never been the best at it, he still managed to get at least one glass milk bottle down.
"I'll take three balls, please," he told the worker, slapping down a couple dollar bills. The man slid them into his money pocket, bent down grabbing three white balls, and laid them in front of Dexter. He picked one up tossing it in the air a few times before turning toward the girl beside him. "So what brings you to Red River City on a crisp day like today?" he inquired before propelling the ball toward his target. Too high. He grasped a second ball spinning it in his hand a couple times before he had another go at it. He threw the ball and smacked the bottles down. He surprised himself that he had knocked down all three, and on his second time. it usually took him at least five tries to do that. "Well, you must be my lucky charm. I'm normally unable to do that. I'm Dexter," he said extending his arm to her in a friendly manner and waited for a response. Maybe some sort of movement or twitch, some indication to show him she was alive and not some life-like mannequin.

From a distance, Lily Dean looked much younger than she actually was. Her hair naturally matched that fair blonde that usually only small children have, for starters, and she tended to have an innocent sort of look about her--especially in regards to her face; she had large, doelike blue eyes and porcelain skin, making her look not only innocent, but doll-like and fragile. What really portrayed her as a young girl, though, was her height. Standing at five feet and zero inches, Lily understood why people assumed her to be a child. Normally, to forgo such issues as being treated like a kid, she would wear heels to tack on a few inches. This day, however, she had not. She had gone for comfort rather than wild footwear.
As she was moseying along in her knitted boots, her mind kept wandering. Things such as planning a party for her cat tormented her, what to get her family members for Christmas plagued her, and should she play one of the many games offered her? After all, she was in Red River City. Without knowing it, her subconscious had chosen a game for her to play. Her booted feet had stopped before a game with stuffed animals hanging along the walls. Still in her own thoughts as she was, Lily was not facing the booth; she had not turned to look at it, unaware that she had even stopped moving again. In fact, the short blonde was completely oblivious to the young man speaking to her until his arm came into her view.
Lily blinked a few times and swirled her lollipop around inside her cheek while she turned to look at him properly. What had he said...? She stared just past his shoulder for a second as she gathered herself, her thoughts, and replayed what her consciousness had missed, but her subconscious had stored for use such as this. "Ah..." Lily plucked the sucker from her mouth and reached out with her free hand to shake his. "Sorry, I'm a space cadet this morning," she joked. "I'm Lily, and I'm not so great at this game either, actually." She had tacked the last bit on only after peeking past him at the stall they were near. "But, if I brought you luck...that's swell! Do you get a prize?" Had she missed something he said earlier? Miss Dean couldn't be sure, but she felt as if there had been something else before she had collected herself. Well, if there was, he can correct me or not as he pleases, she figured.
