The kitchen in Alex Kent's home was filled with the aroma of sugar, and baked chocolate chip cookies as the architect's youngest daughter pulled the cookie sheet from the oven. Her long brown locks rested against her shoulders as she placed the hot, metal sheet against the stove top. She reached with cherry red nails as she touched the cookies with a look of sweet concentration. They were perfect, just like her mother showed her. She paused in that thought, her green eyes dancing over the cookies as her mind flashed to the first time she ever baked cookies with her mother. She had been twelve years old and it had been a freak snow storm. School had been called off and what better way to spend the free time then with your mother in the kitchen.
It had been one of the finer moments that Kayla remembered. She looked up from the cookies and looked around the now empty house. It sucked that her mother didn't live here anymore. That her parents' marriage failed so miserably. Kayla had had four years to resent her father and hate him for what he had done to their family, but it was all but finished now. She kissed her father goodbye when we started off for work, she cooked his meals, and she said good night. Yet there still lingered a sense of anger for what their lives have become.
Regardless, Kayla's attentions have been more or less occupied by her duties to her older sister's wedding arrangements. But today, Kayla had a day off to do as she pleased. Cookies were on the agenda, and she had cupcakes up next. Why was she baking so much you ask? Well the cookies were for the house, but she was making cupcakes for everyone that was involved in Alyson's wedding plans. Daddy, Mum, Finn...even Penn Prescott has been swept into the frenzy. So she planned to bake these cup cakes and pass them along. Maybe make them smile through all the stress.
After a friendly phone conversation with Finn, she smiled brightly at the prospect of coffee. She could have easily made it here, but since he offered to bring her something, she couldn't exactly pass that up now could she? Besides, there would be cookies for him to snack on and maybe she could convince him to bake with her. Guys didn't typically like doing this stuff, not unless they were getting something else out of it. But you never know. Eli sometimes did these kind of things with her, but then she would be sucked into a game or watching a game on the television. Not exactly one of her favorite things to do, but if it made him smile, she was happy to do it. She sighed softly as she moved the cookie sheet to the counter and started to take the cookies off to place them with the others. Once she was finished, she moved to set the sheet into the dishwasher and grab the cupcake pans out of the cupboard. She placed them against the counter before she heard a knock against he door.
"Come on in! Kayla called with a bright smile and then she grabbed a couple fresh cookies and made her way to the door. She wanted to greet Finn with the cookies she had promised. That and get that caffeine she was so craving at this point.
